Trouble Shooting Water Fountain Tips

Water Fountain Cleaning, Care, and Trouble Shooting
At SimplyFountains.com, we understand that your water fountain is an important purchase for your home, office, or backyard. And we expect that your water fountain will become an important and enjoyable part of your daily routine. Therefore, we encourage you to carefully read the Cleaning & Care information that is provided with your water fountain. Certain water fountains may require easy, periodic cleaning. Other water fountains work best with purified or bottled water, which helps to minimize calcium deposits. If you're using an outdoor water fountain where winter conditions can be harsh, you'll want to make sure to completely drain your fountain and in some cases seek indoor storage for your water fountain over the winter months. Again, we encourage you to read the information provided with your water fountain in order to ensure it receives proper cleaning and care.

Water Levels
Most water fountains should be checked daily for water level. Since water will evaporate from your water fountains, this could adversely affect the performance of the water pumps, which in most models must be completely submerged to insure proper operation and longevity. Never allow your water fountain pump to operate dry.

General Cleaning
Most manufacturers suggest that you wipe your water fountain down with a clean cloth to remove any accumulated dirt or dust. This will keep your water fountain looking new at all times. In addition, you should change the water periodically; consult your water fountain's operator's instructions. In areas where dust or lots of blowing leaves are common, a more frequent cleaning of your water fountain may be desired.

Winter Conditions
If you live in areas where winters are harsh, it is important to drain your water fountain and store it during the winter months. Always read the operator's instructions found with your water fountain order.

Basic Troubleshooting
The water fountains found on SimplyFountains.com are reliable and generally operators don't experience any problems but as with any product with working components there may be times when you need to do a little troubleshooting for your water fountain.

Here are a couple of general tips:

  • If your water fountain pump is too noisy:
Some manufacturers recommend using a piece of scotchbrite underneath the pump to dampen the vibrations. Be sure all the connections for your water fountain are secure to prevent air from escaping and causing noise. Also make sure that the pump is completely submerged.

  • If the water does not flow properly:
Check for kinks in the tubing throughout your water fountain systems. Make sure the pump output nozzle is inserted properly, the water fountain pump is completely submerged and the power is switched on the "on" position. Make sure that the water fountain has an adequate amount of water.

  • Always consult your owner's manual
Each manufacturer supplies tips for the specific model of water fountain that you have purchased. Always consult the manual.
