Fountain Cleaning Tips

Cleaning Tips for Water Fountains:

At SimplyFountains.com, we understand that your fountain is an important purchase for your home, office, or backyard. And we expect that your fountain will become an important and enjoyable part of your daily routine. Therefore, we encourage you to carefully read the Cleaning and Care information that is provided with your fountain. Certain fountains may require easy, periodic cleaning. Other fountains work best with purified or bottled water, which helps to minimize calcium deposits. If you're using an outdoor fountain where winter conditions can be harsh, you'll want to make sure to completely drain your fountain and in some cases seek indoor storage for your fountain over the winter months. Again, we encourage you to read the information provided with your fountain in order to ensure it receives proper cleaning and care.

Cleaning the water in your water fountain:
Before you turn on your water fountain for the first time, take a clean, wet sponge and wipe down all components. This will prevent dust and any manufacturing film from clogging up the mechanical workings of the water fountain.

Since many local water is full of mineral deposits and calcium you must guard your fountain by using distilled water in many cases. Please consult your water fountain owner's manual. Mineral deposits can cause build ups in your water fountain's tubes and pumps. This causes it to work harder and in some cases over heat. To prolong the life of your water fountain's working system, follow the instructions of the manufacturer.

Since water evaporates on a daily basis, it is important to do a quick daily check and adding more water when needed. A dry water fountain will cause your pump to overheat and it will break down. When you cannot do a daily check of the water fountain, unplug it and leave it off until you can resume your daily checks. If your water fountain's pump sounds like it is working hard, it probably is and needs more water. Most manufacturers suggest that your water fountain be turned off when you are filling it.

Cleaning the pump
Many of the models of water fountains that we sell have small screens to prevent pebbles and other debris from entering the pump. It is important to periodically check the screens and empty them if full. It's not a bad idea to drain your pump and water fountain several times a year and wipe it down with a clean sponge or towel. Also do a visual check at that time to make sure that all the water fountain's working components are in good repair. A worn out tube can cause problems down the line.
