If after time the pump starts to lose power or stops working you should check for the build up of sediment or scale in the bottom of the pump housing. Carefully remove the solar pump unit and turn it upside down on a soft surface. Dry the solar pump connector and disconnect.
The solar panel should be cleaned periodically with a soft tissue and proprietary glass cleaning solution. Regular cleaning of the panel is advised to maintain optimum conversion of the sun's energy in the direct current.

The closer the sun to the horizon (the lower the sun---the less efficient. "No brainer here!" I don't perceive any added efficiency over the concrete baths other than the fountain novelty. I don't think the birds notice anything different either. I can purchase a concrete bath for [$]. You must decide if the added money for the novelty is worth the additional cost. I'd buy it again [...]. The birth bath fountain is great for discussion if a [...] friend drops by when the sun is high!

The video shows a much wider and stronger fountain spray pattern than mine can obtain. I believe the video is questionable advertising based upon my experience. I figured out that the holes in the wide fountain head are too large. I removed the wide fountain head and inserted the alternate tube. I inserted a small brass fitting with a very small hole to increase the pressure inside the tube and I got a very nice fountain affect as shown in the pictures. So far in two days, the birds are ignoring it.

Working well and the birds are loving it already. Would definitely recommend this to friends as long as their yards are sunny. Like the option of not using the solar panel, will be a nice bath all year long with a small heater.

I was pleased to find that this bird bath set up in a matter of a couple of minutes. Super easy. It looks great and provides a nice gentle water sound in the garden. The only thing I wish was different is the need for full and direct sunlight. They aren't kidding about that. If you even lean over the solar panel and create any shadow, the fountain stops immediately. Other than that I think it is a great fountain for the price.

Note the more water you put into the basin the less water spray but this product started working the minute it had sunlight. Really easy to assemble, nice design. I like the height also, a little higher than my cement birdbath so it's easier to view in my backyard.
Looks like it will hold up nicely.

Q1: Will these solar panels operate efficiently on cloudy days?
A: The panels may or may not operate, but they likely will not operate efficiently. Clouds have a filtering effect on the sun which can result in the pump not receiving enough solar energy to run.
Q2: Do fountains have low water sensor/shutoff? What do I do if I'm away for awhile?
A: The fountains don't have an auto shut-off switch. If gone for a long period of time, suggest draining the water portion and covering the top to prevent the solar panel from attempting to flow water.
Q3: Can I purchase a replacement solar unit?
A: Unfortunately we do not offer replacement parts. You will need to contact Smart Solar Directly at 813-343-5775.
Q4: Is it necessary to use distilled water for all of your bird bath fountains?
A: We do suggest that you use distilled water but if you use a type of fountain protector you can use regular water.
Q5: Can I leave the fountain outside year round without the water freezing?
A: If the temp gets below freezing the water will freeze therefore cracking and ruining the fountain.
