Q1: Does the slate go all the way down to the base of the fountain?
A: The slate on the fountain is flush with the base

A: The water comes out along the entire top rather than through one opening
Q4: Does the water come down on the front and back of the slate or just the front?
A: Almost all the water runs down the front of the fountain, but due to the way the tubing comes out the top, a little water will run down the back.
Q5: How loud is the pump? Is it quiet or loud?
A: There are several factors that affect the noise level of pumps. Pumps are a motor so there will always be noise. If the motor isn't working properly it can produce more noise. The pump could always be replaced as a test. Also, you might try putting a sponge under the pump so the movement cannot resonate against the bottom of the fountain.
