I purchased this fountain for indoors. Its one of the few that was at least 40 inches high which I needed. Shipping was fairly quick. Very large box (65 lbs) so its definitely not easy if you want to return it. I thought the picture online was a little deceiving in that its primarily a dark grey and there is little contrast between the actual stones and the four tier pots. Online, it appears very distinctive in colors between the two. You can see more contrast in color when its dark, and the lights are on but just looking at it during daylight, its not as attractive. It has halogen lights so its pretty bright. If your looking for more softer lighting, these lights are not it. The instructions were not very good (one small page of instructions) with very little in the way of troubleshooting any problems (i.e. its says fill the fountain - full to one person could be three gallons and full to another could be 8 gallons. It never says what the ideal amount is for the fountain. It would have been nice instructions were a little more detailed especially for a [$] fountain. After setting it up, the water kept splashing everywhere. It said a "little" splashing is normal but I had towels around it on my tile floor (and thats with the pump on the LOWEST setting). Because nothing was said in the small instruction sheet, I had to experiment with varying amounts of water to see if it reduced the splashing, as well as made the sound more soothing. Even on the lowest setting, the water falling is not soft, its loud. Loud enough that my 5 year old said it was too loud. So, I started reading online what to do about the splashing and the water being too loud (googling different sites looking for questions, answers or other people's reviews on fountains). In one of them, someone said put rocks in the fountains to reduce noise. I went and got some small rocks from around my house and piled them in the pots (the last two pots at the bottom were primarily the ones causing the splashing, so I put the rocks in there). Anyway, the splashing was greatly reduced and the sound is more soothing like it should be after adding the rocks in the the pots). Since that worked, I am going to buy the smaller pebble rocks and put those in. But the point is, for such an expensive fountain, I should not have had to spend 2 days trying to do detective work on fixing this fountain. I think Alpine could definitely make improvements on this one.
